Mountain States Head Start is a School Readiness Home Visiting Program. We need a team available to paint the wall in the conference room, pull weeds, trim bushes and tree, lay bark, put together, stain and mount little library, possibly mount a TV.

Mountain State Head Start will provide lunch to the volunteer team.

This is a dynamic opportunity for aspiring or student photographers to build their portfolio, gain real-world experience, and support a high-impact community event. Your work will help capture the spirit of service and highlight the incredible volunteers and projects happening across North Idaho.

What You’ll Do:

- Capture candid and posed photos of volunteers, project sites, and event highlights.

- Work independently or in coordination with United Way staff at assigned locations.

- Deliver high-quality digital images within one week of the event.

- Sign a photo release and credit agreement (if applicable).

- Help tell the story of Day of Caring through visual content that may be used in future promotional materials, social media, and reports.

Skills & Requirements:

- Some photography experience and familiarity with using DSLR or high-quality mirrorless cameras.

- Own your own camera and equipment.

- Ability to take direction and work in a variety of settings (indoor/outdoor, different lighting).

- Reliable transportation to assigned project site(s).

- Friendly and professional demeanor.

Help Provide Warmth for Low-Income Seniors

ElderHelp processes and delivers firewood at no cost to low-income seniors, helping them stay warm and safe through the winter months. We’re looking for volunteers to join our firewood team to buck up, split, stack, and cover firewood so it can season properly, as well as deliver seasoned firewood directly to the homes of qualified seniors.

This project takes place at 2570 W Highway 53, Rathdrum — directly across from Wilkinson Road. Look for the ElderHelp sign. On weekends, the gate is coded; if no one is there to let you in, call 208-929-1140 and someone will be dispatched to open it. Once through the gate, drive ½ mile straight south, and you’ll see the firewood operation.

Your time and effort will make a real difference for seniors in our community. Come lend a hand and help us provide the gift of warmth!

Nonprofit art studio and discovery play area located at the back of the Cedar Street Bridge in downtown Sandpoint, Idaho.

Project Description
Deep Clean our Discovery Play Area and Art Studio after use by thousands of kids and their families each year!
We are signing up for 5 volunteers for a half day and we are flexible: morning, afternoon or any number of volunteers 1-5 would be awesome! We use Day of Caring for our annual deep clean. We will have several our staff or board members to help the Deep Clean effort on this day!

Cleaning priority list:

Clean all floor surfaces to the walls
-Vacuum play area, including move all kids furniture to vacuum under.
-Shampoo the carpet, we will you rent a carpet cleaner for the day
-Vacuum and then wash all the brick floor in hallway (move stools under bar and tiny table/log bench etc. along hallways to clean the
floor along the walls)
-Vacuum and then wash the floor in the community area with lending library. Pull all the furniture to one side (don't block the bridge hallway) to clean and then pull it all to the other side to vacuum and wash under everything and along the edges
-Art studio floor - clean all the way to the edges, vacuum and wash, In the past we have sprayed cleaner, let soak and then scraped all the paint off
-Wash all the big windows on inside. Also wash the windows of the toy store on the hallway side of window

Art Studio:
-Wash paint off counters, sink, and wash the front of the art studio
cabinets

Play Area:
-Wet rag with a little cleaner wash every place in the play area where kids put their hands. For example the yellow bus can get very grungy
-Wash bar where parents can sit

Volunteers may bring but are not required to supply the following needs:

2 Windex, 2 Spray disinfectant cleaner, large package of paper towels, rags to clean with, a few small buckets for soapy water, green scrubby pads and regular sponges, broom and dust pan, mop, carpet cleaner rental.

The Art Alliance will provide lunch on-site for Day of Caring Volunteers.

We are looking for a couple of volunteers to come and clean the Museum of North Idaho, also known as the historic J.C. White House. Jobs include vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, spot-mopping, tidying bathrooms, and watering plants. Cleaning would have to take place between the hours of 9:00 am and 10:30 am on Saturday mornings, prior to the opening of the museum. 

The Museum of North Idaho has a 5-foot by 3 foot (approximately) tree stump in its parking lot and we need capable volunteers to help relocate it to a different spot on our property. Tractor, truck, winch, or other machinery would be extremely helpful. A team of at least four strong people is needed. It is not dry, which means it is VERY heavy. Group sign-ups required. Idaho Youth Ranch relies on its thrift stores located across the state to help fund its programs supporting Idaho's youth. It is crucial that our stores remain a safe, well-operated, and welcoming environment for everyone. To do this, we need volunteers to help rotating new products onto the sales floor, sorting and organize donations, greeting customers, and making sure the thrift store is an inviting place for both customers as well as staff/volunteers.

St. Vincent de Paul North Idaho is a local non profit organization who works with our communities vulnerable populations. We provide, shelters, showers, laundry services, basic needs, hygiene and case management.

This is a hands-on volunteer opportunity that directly supports our mission of helping neighbors in need. We need volunteers to help sort, organize, and prepare incoming donations of clothing, household goods, and other items in our warehouse. This work ensures that our thrift stores and outreach programs have quality, well-organized goods ready for distribution, allowing us to fund critical programs such as housing, shower/laundry facilities, Father Bill's Kitchen, and shelters.

Twice a year we like to get all the carpets and rugs cleaned! 

We could use help doing a more thorough cleaning of the interior and exterior of the school, ex. Cleaning outdoor toys, managing the garden, shoveling snow, cleaning walls, etc. 

We would love to have donations of diapers,  baby wipes, craft supplies, coats and winter gear, and toys. 

Teachers have a lot of work to do and prepping is usually done in their off time to meet the children’s needs. We can use help prepping supplies for activities that are pre-planned. 

Once in awhile we need help taking a load or so to the transfer station.

Crisis Hotline Volunteer opportunities are available to community members in Whitman and Latah counties. Those who apply for these positions are asked for a resume, application, two references, undergo federal and state background checks, and participate in 40 Hours of Advocate training. Our volunteer advocates at Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse are essential in providing victims services as they are the first voices survivors hear when calling for help. As a volunteer advocate, you will be asked to commit a minimum of one year of service with ATVP. If you are a passionate, committed, and caring individual, this could be the right opportunity.

Volunteers serving as Government Operations Service Associates serve as direct contact with government partners, often in an Emergency Operations Center or other coordination center, during a Disaster Relief Operation to ensure that Red Cross actions are aligned with the government.

The Shelter Resident Transition Service Associates help shelter residents create personalized plans to overcome roadblocks and transition to sustainable housing solutions. They play a critical role in reducing disaster-caused displacement and aiding in long-term recovery for individuals.

Affordable housing is at the heart of that—and Home Share is making it possible for local workers, from nursing students to artists to construction crews, to live and thrive right here.

In just the past two months, we’ve helped match over seven providers and seekers—creating safe, secure homes and real human connection. But we can’t do this alone.

At Hand in Hand Family Mentorship, we believe that one caring relationship can change everything. We’re looking for everyday people across Idaho who are willing to show up, listen, and walk beside someone who’s struggling. You don’t have to be a professional-you just have to care. As a mentor, you’ll offer support and encouragement to individuals working to rebuild their lives and families. This is a meaningful, flexible opportunity that fits into your life-a text here, a coffee there, an invitation to a family BBQ. We provide training and walk with you every step of the way. Join us in the office from 9-12 or from 12-3 on a weekday of your choice. You'll help us welcome guests, verify resources, and find support for our clients unique set of needs.

As an adult volunteer (age 18+), you will have the opportunity to make an impact on the lives of patients and families during their visit to Kootenai Health. Our volunteers currently contribute in a variety of service areas.

They provide extra special touches like a friendly smile, help patients finding their way, and extra hands to make sure all the work is done. Volunteer with The Literacy Project of North Idaho and help adults gain the basic literacy and computer skills they need to thrive. When adults achieve their literacy goals, entire families and communities are transformed—and it all starts with one caring volunteer.

If you can read and write fluently, you can help someone else do the same. We’ll provide all the training you need to get started, plus ongoing workshops to support your journey.
