The Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness is a Non-Profit that advocates for the Proposed wilderness of Scotchman Peaks. While it is not a designated Wilderness area yet it is our goal to get it there while also helping maintain it through traditional Wilderness practices, education, advocacy, and stewardship.
What We Do
The Scotchman Peaks have been passed down to children and grandchildren for as long as people have lived in the Inland Northwest. They are the traditional territory of the Ktunaxa Nation, Kootenai Tribe of Idaho, and the Kalispel Tribe.
The Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness is committed to saving this land for children and grandchildren yet to come. The mission is simple: using every available tool to save the wild Scotchmans.
The Friends do this by advocating for the designation of Wilderness to the Scotchman Peaks area and the organization also works to connect community members with their wild backyard. We do this by doing volunteer trail clearing and maintenance, leading hikes, and being trail ambassadors on our most popular trail. Volunteers also educate adults and kids alike on the natural world and why it matters
