Who We Are

Our mission is to unite for Idaho's youth by providing accessible programs and services that nurture hope, healing, and resilience. Reverend James Crowe and Ruby Carey Crowe founded the Idaho Youth ranch as a working ranch where kids in need could grow and learn. On July 11, 1952, President Truman approved an Act of Congress that granted Reverend James Crowe the right to buy 2,560 acres of land in Rupert for $1 per acre per year for 25 years with no interest. The first boy to arrived at the ranch in 1957. In 1983 we opened the first thrift store to generate revenue to support the org's programs. Since then we have grown our store network to locations throughout the state as we work to expand access to our programs. In 2015, we moved the ranch from Rupert to our new Hands of Promise Campus in the Treasure Valley. Moving away from the working ranch concept and more towards facilities designed to support the physical, emotional, and educational needs of the children and teens who live there. Youth are supported with 24-hour nursing, psychiatric care, proven treatment models, and a year-round school. Designed and modeled after leading national facilities, the center includes medication management, nutrition, and physical fitness in a secure environment with 24-hour supervision. All this care supports one goal: helping kids heal and return to their families and communities in a safe and supported manner.

What We Do

Idaho Youth Ranch is a non-profit 501(c)(3) agency that offers emergency shelter, residential care, youth and family therapy, job readiness training, adoption services, and more. Since 1953, Idaho Youth Ranch has been a beacon of hope for struggling kids and families. In addition to the aforementioned services, we operate over 20 thrift stores across the state of Idaho to help raise funds so we can continue to support as many kids as we can. Additionally, in regard to North Idaho we have a therapy center named the Anchor House located in Coeur d'Alene. This site allows us to more easily support the youth of Idaho outside of our Hands of Promise Campus in the Treasure Valley.
