Safe Start

Safe Start is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing infant and child deaths and injuries through education, advocacy, support, and access to safety resources. Founded by parents and professionals committed to protecting children, we work with families, healthcare providers, community organizations, and public agencies to promote child health and safety.

We serve families throughout North Idaho, Eastern Washington, and surrounding communities, providing programs that include safe infant sleep education, child passenger safety, injury prevention, breastfeeding support, and compassionate support for families affected by pregnancy, infant, and child death. Each year, we help thousands of families gain the knowledge and resources they need to keep children safe and healthy.

At Safe Start, we believe every child deserves a safe start in life, and every family deserves access to education, support, and hope.

Safe Start works to prevent infant and child deaths and injuries through education, support, and access to safety resources. We provide evidence-based programs that help families create safe environments for children, including car seat safety, safe infant sleep education, injury prevention classes, breastfeeding support, and grief support for families affected by pregnancy, infant, and child death.

Through community partnerships, volunteer involvement, and outreach efforts, we help thousands of families each year build safer, healthier futures for their children. Volunteers play a vital role in our mission by assisting with fundraising events, community outreach activities, educational programs, event planning, registration and guest services, assembling educational and safety materials, and supporting families at special events throughout the year. Whether helping for a few hours at an event or serving on a committee, volunteers make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families in our community.
